How I went:

Have been here many times from Coimbatore. You can travel from Madurai or Coimbatore. The distance is roughly 3 hours by bus from both places.

Normally I take a 4 45 am bus from Coimbatore. Reach Palani by 7.15 am. You can either climb steps about 500 or there is a path called elephant path without steps but a little circuitous. Otherwise for Rs 25 the auto can leave you at electric rope way car station which is about 10 minutes ride. The electic car will leave you on top of hil in 10 minutes. It is best to first go and pray to the temple that is in the foot hill

Once you are on top you can buy a special dharshan ticket and worship the lord. The major Prasad here is panjamirdam which is a mix of hill banana, jaggary, honey, ghee etc.

Once you come down you can visit other temples around using the link below

Once done normally I have a good breakfast at Chellam Canteen right opposite the bus stand . The food is good here.
